Addressing Mega-Risks on Global Health

The first keynote speaker at World Health City Forum 2023 was Dr.JEE Youngmee, Commissioner of Korea Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. JEE's keynote address was titled "Addressing Mega-Risks on Global Health". In her speech, she analyzed various threats to global health, including pandemics, climate change, aging, and urbanization, and spoke about the need for global investment to achieve health equity. Introducing the health disparities reduction project that the Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been implementing since 2017, Dr. JEE emphasized the need to implement integrated policies to improve the lives of both urban and rural populations, and comprehensive policies to ensure access to social services that focus on the needs of the open poor and other vulnerable groups. She also emphasized the need to conduct community health surveys and establish national measures to prevent chronic diseases.


 In terms of preparing for and responding to the next pandemic, Dr. JEE announced plans for the central government of Korea to establish an integrated information system by early 2024. She concluded the keynote speech by emphasizing the importance of networks and international cooperation among healthy cities and the need for international collaboration to prepare for the next pandemic.
