Dr. Bounfeng Phoummalaysith, Minister of Health of Laos, delivered the third keynote address of the 2023 WHCF on the theme ‘Innovation in Asian Health Strategy'. In his keynote address, Minister Bounfeng, who oversees health policies in Laos, the 2024 ASEAN Chair emphasized the importance of shared goals within the ASEAN community, particularly in the healthcare sector. He stated, "As a party with great responsibility for the Asian Health Strategy, we are committed to sharing the goals of the ASEAN community, especially in the area of health. We firmly believe that health is a fundamental human right, and we will work to ensure that every individual in our region has access to high-quality services and valuable health maintenance," he said, emphasizing the importance of health care and innovation in Asia. In his capacity as Health Chief of the ASEAN Chair in 2024, he also addressed and pledged the need for collaboration between ASEAN countries and international organizations. He spoke about the need to digitize and smarten ASEAN healthcare, citing digital innovation as a concrete solution to improve access, well-being, and quality of health services in ASEAN. "Together, we have the power to create a brighter future for wider health coverage in ASEAN," he concluded his speech.
